Chicago Weekend Shootings: Three Dead, 19 Injured in Citywide Gun Violence

In a somber weekend for Chicago, a series of shootings left three people dead and 19 others injured. The Chicago Police Department reported 13 separate shooting incidents from Friday evening to Sunday night.

The violence began just after 7 p.m. on Friday in the 8700 block of South Loomis. Two armed individuals approached a 41-year-old man and opened fire, hitting him multiple times. The man was declared dead at the scene. This marked the start of a deadly weekend in the city.

On Sunday around 9:30 p.m., another fatal shooting occurred in the 4700 block of South Paulina. A man was killed, and a woman was injured when shots were fired from a dark-colored sedan. The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck multiple times and died at the scene. The 27-year-old woman, shot in the leg, is in fair condition at a local hospital. Security camera footage was released from a nearby location.


Later that night, at approximately 11 p.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in the head and found in an alley near the 8600 block of South Cregier Avenue. Responding to a gunshot detection alert, officers discovered the man and pronounced him dead at the scene.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger measures to combat gun violence and protect Chicago’s communities. The sheer number of shootings and fatalities over one weekend underscores the ongoing crisis in the city.
